Leeds gained revenge for their defeat in Tokyo four days earlier with two first half goals from Gary Speed in the twenty-eighth minute and Lee Chapman eight minutes later. Carlos Alberto got a consolation goal for the visitors with seven minutes to go. For Leeds, Mel Sterland replaced John McClelland at Right Back and Glynn Snodin came on for Gary Speed at Outside Left. Botafogo brought on Carlos Alberto Dias for Valdeir at inside left after fifty-four minutes, Marcelo Bujicca for Pingo at centre forward three minutes later, Venturo Sandro at outside right for Portaluppi Renato after seventy-five minutes and Vasconcelos at outside left for Vivinho two minutes later. Referee was Joe Worrall of Warrington.
